Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
Lien exists to help people find real relationships, and that only works if you can trust us with personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you keep. It is written to comply with Canada’s PIPEDA and British Columbia’s PIPA.
1. What we collect
- Account details — email address, phone number (optional), and password (stored only as a salted hash).
- Profile information — name, birth date, gender, photos, prompts, city, relationship intent, and questionnaire answers you choose to provide.
- Verification data — a selfie used to confirm you are a real person. Where identity verification is offered through a specialist provider, that provider processes your ID under its own safeguards.
- Activity — introductions shown, accepts and passes, messages you send (delivered to your match and screened for safety), and reports or blocks you make.
- Technical data — device type, approximate location (city level), and diagnostic logs used to keep the service reliable and secure.
2. How we use it
- To create curated introductions and explain why we matched you.
- To verify members and keep unverified or bad-faith accounts out.
- To operate messaging, safety tooling, and moderation.
- To improve match quality using aggregated, de-identified signals.
- To communicate essential service updates.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show you advertising based on your profile. Your questionnaire answers are never shown to other members — only the compatibility they produce.
3. What other members see
Your first name, age, photos, prompts, city, intent, and verification badge are visible to members we introduce you to. Your email, phone number, exact location, and questionnaire answers are never visible to other members.
4. Sharing
We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf (hosting, storage, identity verification, analytics, and payments), under contract, and only what each needs. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our members.
5. Retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion deactivates your profile immediately and removes your personal information from active systems; residual copies in encrypted backups expire on a rolling schedule. Safety records (reports and enforcement actions) may be retained where the law allows, to protect other members.
6. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and you may withdraw consent for optional processing. Contact us at privacy@joinlien.com and we will respond within 30 days.
7. Security
We use encryption in transit, hashed credentials, scoped access controls, and verified-only membership. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.
8. Changes
If we materially change this policy, we will notify you in the app before the change takes effect. Continued use after notice means you accept the updated policy.
